Shannon took 1st place in the 16th annual New Jersey Shout Down Drugs!
songwriting competition, winning a $5,000 music contract and the honor of performing her original song and representing the Partnership for a Drug-free New Jersey in performances throughout the state for an entire year.
This competition starts with high school students throughout New Jersey composing, performing, and recording an original anti-substance abuse song. These songs are voted upon online, and finalists from each county are selected along with an online vote winner--all of whom advance to compete in a live concert where independent judges select the overall contest winners in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.
This year, Shannon won both the online vote, and was also selected by the judges to win 1st place overall as well. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, a virtual concert was broadcast online, and the winners were announced on WRAT.
